New Edition of Form I-9 is Mandatory 11/01/2023

  • The newest edition of Form I-9 (dated August 1, 2023) will become mandatory for all employers starting tomorrow, November 1, 2023.

  • The new form does not contain any substantive changes from the previous October 21, 2019 version. However, there are changes to how the form is organized, and the new form recognizes the recent DHS rule that authorizes certain E-Verify employers to use an alternative process to review Form I-9 documents remotely in some circumstances.

  • Form I-9 is used to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must properly complete Form I-9 for every individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens. Both employees and employers (or authorized representatives of the employer) must complete the form. Independent contractors are not required to complete Form I-9.
