Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) Announced for Hong Kong Residents in the U.S.
Due to the “significant erosion of human rights and freedoms in Hong Kong by the People’s Republic of China (PRC)” President Biden has designated DED for certain Hong Kong residents in the U.S. Essentially, DED blocks removal of any Hong Kong resident in the U.S., provided they have been present since August 5, 2021. They will also become eligible for a work authorization document. Further instructions on how to apply will be released by the government soon.
Work Authorization regulations for F-1 students from Hong Kong have also been relaxed as part of this declaration.
