Biden Administration Immigration Changes

The 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden, was sworn in on January 20th along with Vice President Kamala Harris and he immediately implemented executive orders and proposed legislation relating to immigration policy in the US. Below are several of the changes that Biden has already implemented or proposed as part of his immigration legislation:

  • Rescinded the Muslim Travel Ban

  • Halted deportations for the first 100 days of administration

  • Put all federal regulations proposed or finalized in the last 60 days of the Trump administration on hold and under review. This includes DHS and DOL rules regarding H-1B wages and lottery selection process.

  • Stopped construction of the US-Mexico border wall

  • Blocked deportation for Liberians living in the US

  • Proposed US Citizenship Act of 2021 legislation to Congress which includes:

    • An earned path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented individuals in the US

    • Solidifying the DACA program

    • Clearing visa backlogs

    • Eliminating per country green card quotas

    • EADs for H-4 spouses

    • Prevent children from aging out of the immigration process
